Mui Ne

Got to Mui Ne after a short trip from Saigon: only 5 hours by bus, starting at 6.30 in the morning. This is a very pretty town, stretched out over a few kilometres along both sides of the main highway.

The main strip.
There is a much more obvious Russian presence here, with restaurant menus in the language along with English and Vietnamese. It's quite an upmarket place, although I've managed to find places where you can eat well for very little. Staying in a hostel, where you get a lot for your Dong; even has a two swimming pools.

The food here is also quite exotic. Had a meal where the bus dropped me. On the menu were snake, crocodile and tortoise. Snake sounds interesting, (I've already had the other two on my travels), so will give it a punt next time I come across it.

Went for a wander down the strip yesterday and saw a small crocodile roasting on a spit. Must admit, it looked rather tasty

Got up at 4.30 this morning to see the sunrise over the local fishing village and drive through Mui Ne's famous sand dunes, arriving back here at 8.45 for a quick nap. Moving on tomorrow, to Dalat, a quintessentially French Colonial town, which even boasts a model of the Eiffel Tower.

Different (red) sand dunes.

Have decided to head for Hanoi a bit quicker than I originally intended as I only have a month visa here and want to stay with the Tay people, a completely different race up north. You can help out in the village - might do some English teaching and listen to their music, which has a reputation in the region. Who knows, might even get to play them a tune on my guitar, which has been just another thing to lug around up until now.

By nostrich of the imagination.
